Audience Analysis
I am writing a resume for a teaching job. I know I don’t have the qualifications necessary at this point in time, but I am still putting together a resume that I hope looks professional and impresses potential employers. In the future I will hopefully be able to update it with the necessary qualifications and use it to apply for a job. The audience that will view my resume in the future will probably be administrators for various school districts. The first person that will see the resume will most likely be someone in human resources and they will most likely be the ones scanning the bad resumes (or applications) and forwarding the ones that look promising to Principals and other administrators. It is important that this resume provides them with a good impression of me at first glance.
My Resume and Why It Looks That Way
I began with “Qualifications Summary” but I didn’t have much to put under this section because I am still young and don’t have a lot of work experience. I figured this is a class project and I need to use what I do have so I did. I followed that with “Employment History” and listed my work history which is kind of diverse. I know this won’t work if I was actually using this resume to apply for a job because my work history is so random since I have mostly concentrated on being a student ever since I got out of high school.
I also included a small section called “Education” in which I listed that I am currently studying for a Bachelor’s in Psychology and that I attended Health Careers High School in San Antonio. Hopefully after I get my degree and teacher’s certification I can just include those two and not my high school. If someone was to look closely at my resume they might notice a gap in my employment history and I don’t really know how to avoid that since I have been a student most of that time, hopefully when it actually comes time to use the resume all this little glitches I see will be fixed.
Data on the Company
I choose Northside Independent School District (NISD) to focus on for the company. One because its a school district I hope to work for after I get my teaching credentials and two because my father has worked there for over ten years and I know that they reward their hard workers. They also have a pretty good website so it was easy to find information on them. NISD is the premier school district for San Antonio. They have over 5,000 teachers working for them and are in the top ten school districts (according to enrollment) in Texas. They pay their teacher’s anywhere from $36,666 - $56,729 if you have a only a Bachelor’s and anywhere from $37,748 - $62,004 if you have your Master’s. The website for the school district also has interesting information like the drop out rate is only 1% and the 84.8% percent of graduates are college bound. One more reason for my interest in this school district is that I graduated from a very good high school in it. I think that has helped me in my college career enourmously and I would like to pass that on to future students. They have the opening dates posted for all the schools within the disctrict, the oldest being Helotes Elementary which opened in 1950. My high school opened in 1984. The year 1949 is listed as the year Northside Independent School District was born and I found that very interesting.
Conclusion
Its been hard to write a resume for a career I do not yet have the qualifications or experience for. I have done the best I could with the information I have and hopefully as I get experience and finish my education I can change these things on my resume in an appealing way to my employer. I did learn a lot about NISD and what I need to focus on to secure a job with them in the future.
